Compared to its predecessor, the X1, the Nano X2 features a lower heel cup, resulting in fewer reports of blisters during testing. The X2 also offers exceptional durability, surpassing its older sibling in this aspect.


It is worth noting that individuals with smaller, narrower feet should be aware that the Nano X2 features a wide toe box. Therefore, it may be advisable for them to explore alternative options.


As is characteristic of any reliable CrossFit shoe, the Nano X2 does not excel in a single category; rather, it performs exceptionally well in a wide range of activities.

In fact, the company's website displays a picture of an individual twisting the shoes, highlighting their unparalleled flexibility. Consequently, wearers benefit from superb ankle mobility. While the shoes do not possess extensive cushioning (compared to running shoes, for instance), they offer enough mobility to strengthen the foot, making them suitable for executing exceptional roundhouse kicks. Wearers seeking additional comfort may replace the removable insoles with their preferred inserts, as Feiyue offers its own insole inserts.


Praised by professional parkour athletes, the shoes' all-rubber outsole guarantees outstanding traction. The virtually non-existent heel-to-toe drop produces a barefoot-style shoe experience without compromising on required protection. Although durability may be compromised due to the heavily affordable price tag, it is worth noting that individuals can acquire four pairs of FE LO 1920 shoes for the cost of a single Nike Metcon.


For $35, these shoes deliver impressive performance, making them a viable choice for recreational athletes.

We queried our Facebook Home Gym Community (if you're not yet a member, what are you waiting for?) about their preferred training shoe, and while the Nike Metcon 7 claimed the top spot, the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star came in a close second.


Poll of best cross-training shoesI must say, I admire the taste of our readers. It's hard not to love Chucks. They provide a stiff outsole, offer remarkable ankle support (especially with the high-top version, which I recommend), and possess a stylish appearance suitable for both gym workouts and dinner engagements. Talk about versatility.


Some of our readers, and I concur, noted that Chucks may not be the ideal choice for all types of lifts, particularly back squats. This stems from their minimal heel-to-toe drop, which is perfectly fine for deadlifts and other exercises. The shoes' flat, thin midsole is another reason they shine for individuals who prefer a grounded sensation during their workouts.


The upper portion of the shoe is crafted from canvas fabric, which is not renowned for its durability but receives praise for its breathability and flexibility.


To be blunt, Chucks aren't the best option for cardio-intensive workouts. While they can withstand warm-ups, I would not recommend them for competitive activities such as sprints or burpees. However, they excel in everyday use and should hold up well during long walks.

Cross-trainers are meant to combine various shoe attributes into one, and Nike took this idea quite literally with the Free Metcon 4. This shoe merges the best aspects of the Free running shoe and the Metcon series.


We highly recommend the Nike Free Metcon 4 for cardio workouts due to its superb foot support (a characteristic inherited from the Free) and its rubber tread, which prevents slippage during quick cuts and jumps. Additionally, it features a flexible forefoot and internal webbing for midfoot support.


Rest assured that your feet will not only experience optimal support during cardio exercises but will also remain cool thanks to the breathable mesh upper with a chain-link design.


It is worth noting that these shoes may feel a bit too tight for some individuals. Based on our testing, we discovered that going up half a size provided a better fit, although some individuals claimed that the shoes fit true to size. Foot anatomy varies among individuals, but these shoes tend to run on the smaller side, so individuals with wider feet may encounter challenges when trying them on.

Other Cross-Training Shoes We Researched


The shoes mentioned above are only a few of the options we tested extensively. Throughout our evaluation, we encountered several other shoes that did not make the final cut.


Inov-8 F-Lite 235 V.2: Inov-8 offers some impressive trainers, but the F-Lite 235 V2 falls short in terms of comfort and durability compared to its counterparts.


Nike Metcon 6: Although these shoes are exceptional training shoes, the Metcon 7 model surpasses them in terms of performance and only costs slightly more, making it a better investment.


Reebok JJ IV Men's Training Shoe: These shoes are designed for individuals with larger feet. As of now, we only have one staff member who meets this criteria, and he has not had the chance to test them out yet. Based on our research, they have received positive reviews, and we hold a favorable opinion of shoes endorsed by JJ Watt. We will provide an update if and when we have the opportunity to try them out.


Under Armour HOVR Apex 3: Despite the outstanding online reviews, we have yet to personally evaluate this pair.


On Cloud X: These shoes are better suited for running rather than training.


Hoka Kawana: This option is more suitable for dedicated runners.


Puma Fuse: With a wide toe box, minimal heel-to-toe drop, and excellent shock absorption, we are eager to try out these shoes!
