Loosen dirt and dust with a soft bristle brush. Use light, circular motions to smoothly glide the brush over the fabric. For those tough-to-reach spots, try using a soft toothbrush.

  2. 2

Use an eraser to remove smudges. Scuff marks can be removed from shiny leather by rubbing the affected area with an eraser to remove the transferred color. Rub the eraser against the scuff gently; as you go, use the bristle brush to remove any eraser shavings that may have accumulated.

  3. 3

Get rid of stubborn stains with some rubbing alcohol or vaseline. Squeeze some of the rubbing alcohol or vaseline onto a q-tip or a piece of paper towel. Use a light, even pressure to gently rub the spot, taking care not to overwork it. After letting it sit for 15–20 seconds, dry the area with a towel. [3]

    • It may be necessary to do this more than once if the stain is particularly tenacious.
  4. 4

Remove dirt and grime from the shoe's exterior by wiping it down with a damp cloth and some mild soap. Rinse the cloth until it is just slightly damp. One drop of non-detergent liquid soap on the damp cloth should do the trick. Gently wipe all patent leather areas of the shoe using circular motions. 1

    • Though patent leather footwear has a watertight coating, it's only a gloss. Use as little water as possible when cleaning, and avoid wearing in wet conditions for extended periods of time.
  5. 5

Use a microfiber cloth for polishing the shoes. Again, use circular motions to wipe away the moisture. Keep the shoes out in the open for at least 24 hours after cleaning to ensure they dry completely. [5]

  6. 6

If your shoes are sticky, try rubbing them with olive oil, vaseline, or a mineral oil. Apply the oil or vaseline using a small amount on a cloth and rub into the leather in small, circular motions. After 20 to 40 minutes, wipe the shoes down with a dry cloth. [6]

    • Leave the shoes overnight to see if the stickiness dries if they are still tacky in the morning. If not, the leather soles may have been ruined because the glue holding them together deteriorated in the damp air.
  7. 7

Patent leather items should be kept in a dry, cool place. Once you've cleaned your shoes, put them away in a place where they won't get damaged over time. A good storage area is one that is clean, dry, and at a moderate temperature.

    • Keep them in their shoe trees when not in use to ensure they keep their shape. [9]

Cleaning a piece of furniture involves vacuuming all of its surfaces. [10] Sofas and cushions can become a breeding ground for dirt and dust if not regularly cleaned. Get into tight spaces and pick up dirt with the help of the vacuum's brush attachment. Gently rub the eraser against the scuff, clearing away any eraser shavings by using the bristle brush as you work

  2. 2

Distilled water with a few drops of non-detergent liquid soap [12] This mixture will produce a cleaner that will not strip the protective coating from the leather. Use a non-detergent soap to keep the furniture's finish from being damaged by detergents.

  3. 3

Apply cleaning solution to a microfiber cloth, and wipe down the surfaces. Take a small piece of the cloth and dip it into the solution. The cloth should be damp, not drenched. Before using, you may need to give it a quick ring to remove excess water.

  4. 4

Test the solvent by wiping it onto a small, hidden area of the furniture. Do not do this on a visible part of the furniture. You'll use this area as a test to see if your cleaning solution leaves any kind of mark or stain. Hold off for a while, or wipe it dry gently, until it dries. 3

  5. 5

Use your cleaning solution to wipe down the sofa. If the test patch shows no discoloration, you can proceed wiping down the sofa. [17] Move the cloth in large, circular motions from top to bottom, rewetting it as needed. [18]

  6. 6

Clean the sofa with distilled water only. You should rinse the sofa with plain water after applying the cleaning solution. Move in large circles, this time from top to bottom. In doing so, you can get rid of any soap scum. [19]

  7. 7

Put your patent leather furniture in direct sunlight to dry. When drying the furniture, use a plush microfiber towel. You should never let your sofa get completely soaked, as this can ruin the fabric forever.

    • Leather should never be dried with an electric hair dryer or a fan. Even though they're faster, they often lead to leather dehydration. [21]
  8. 8

Leather should be conditioned to keep its suppleness. Apply leather cream with a clean cloth to restore the leather's natural oils after washing. Don't rush the drying process, and buff the cream to a shine if necessary. [22]

    • Do it yourself cleaning and conditioning solutions containing vinegar should be avoided because they can remove the patent leather's protective coating.
  9. 9

To remove stubborn stains, try using a dab of vaseline or a little rubbing alcohol. Use a q-tip or a piece of paper towel dipped in vaseline or rubbing alcohol to gently rub the stain. After 15-20 seconds, wipe the area dry and reapply the solution until the stain is gone.

    • The next step is to dry the area thoroughly after wiping it down with a damp cloth to remove the stain.

Remove big scratches with an eraser. An eraser's friction can be used to remove color transfer from leather, which is especially effective for larger marks. Make light work of the scuff with the eraser, and sweep away eraser crumbs as you go. Wipe in small circular motions on all surfaces of the shoe that are patent leather

  2. 2

Spray some window cleaner onto a paper towel, and use it to clean the bag inside and out. To remove dirt and shine the bag, use a paper towel and gently rub it in circular motions. Most dirt and dust should be eliminated in this manner.

    • 3

Rub some vaseline or alcohol on the scuffs if they're particularly stubborn. Apply some vaseline or rubbing alcohol to the spot using a paper towel or a q-tip. Since rubbing alcohol is a paint stripper, it's best to try vaseline first. After waiting a few minutes, wipe the area down with a dry cloth.

      • In cases where the stain is particularly tenacious, you may need to apply some pressure while rubbing the q-tip or paper towel into the spot.
    • 4

Applying a solution of mild soap and distilled water to a cloth and wiping down the bag will get it clean. In order to clean without leaving any residue, wet a soft cloth and add a single drop of non-detergent cleaner to the surface of the cloth. Working in small circles, apply the mild cleaning solution to the entire bag. [27]

    • 5

Remove any excess moisture from the bag with a dry cloth. Don't forget to dry the bag's handles, rivets, and other nooks and crannies. Before putting it away in a dust cover, you may want to give it a night to dry. [28]

    • 6

Keep your bag in a dry and secure spot. After cleaning, put the bag back into its dust cover and keep it in a secure place until you're ready to use it again. Without a dust cover, your bag will get dirty quickly. Maintaining your bag in a dry, cool place is essential. Again, wipe in small circular motions to remove any excess water
